until the end of the school year! Thirteen and a half as of tomorrow.... but when I factor in the 2 days that I am chaperoning field trips for Noah and AJ, the field trip for my 6th graders, and the band field trip that will take most of my students (on my birthday, no less... happy birthday to me!) and we're under TEN actual teaching days left this year. Holy cow....
The week in review
Last week was just another in the string of busy weeks we've had lately.... after Wednesday night's pack meeting for scouts, we had Benjamin's school production of Anansi and the Strange Moss Covered Rock. SO cute! Benjamin was in the "monkey" group... how appropriate, right? Here's a picture of him in his costume (basically just brown clothes and a mask):
So that was Thursday.... Friday I decided to chaperone the last school dance of the year because I wanted to bring AJ so that he could meet some of my students. He had fun, and although I could tell that he was nervous at first, he ended up having a pretty good time, I think. We left there at 9 and ran into Wal-mart for a bit of grocery shopping. The boys' school fair was yesterday, and I had volunteered to make a cake for the Cake Walk that is always a popular event... but of course I didn't have a cake mix, so had to get one. While I was there I decided just to do the shopping for the week (mostly produce and milk), so we didn't get home until about 10. So much for making the cake that night... not gonna happen.
Saturday was the day I originally planned to take off from the gym so that I could go to AJ's lacrosse games, but it didn't turn out that way. I had to renew my certification to teach bb to the cub scouts at day camp, and the last training session was yesterday, so I had no choice but to go. AJ's games were at 9 and 10 here in SP, but when I got up at 5 (to make the cupcakes LOL... by this time I figured out that these would be faster and easier than a cake!) it was pouring, so I headed to the gym, thinking that both lacrosse games and Benjamin's baseball would be cancelled. Not so, of course, since (thankfully) the sun came out and the games were on. I got home from the gym just in time to see everyone off with Arthur and get ready for my training, which was at 10 in Raymond (at Camp Hinds). By the time I took a shower, frosted and decorated the cupcakes (nothing fancy, just sprinkles... but I did the school colors wiht the frosting) and dropped off the raffle tickets for baseball that were being drawn at noon, I headed out for the training knowing full well that I would be late... crap. It wasn't a big deal, since I was already certified previously, and I only missed it by 15 minutes, so it was all good. BONUS... the training was scheduled to last until 2, but ended at 12:15 (thanks Tom!), so I was able to make it home in time to go to the school fair with the kids! :) Well, at least I thought that they would be there... turned out that it was a little harder to find them than I thought it would be, though. Craziness... I called the house when I got on the road to let them know that I would be home for the fair after all. Well, AJ was the only one home, because a friend had dropped him off after their lacrosse games were over (they won both!). Arthur and the other 2 boys had gone to Benjamin's game, which was originally scheduled for 11am, so I assumed that they would be home shortly after (or maybe even before) me. I tried to call Arthur on the cell phone that he's been using (belongs to his friend), because I saw that he had called me earlier, but he didn't pick up. Shocker.. not. He HATES cell phones with a passion and always swore he'd never have one. Anyway... they didn't show up, so I grabbed a change of clothes for Benjamin and headed up to the school fair, thinking that maybe they went directly there. I didn't see Arthur's truck though... so I dropped AJ off and headed to the baseball field, thinking that I could intercept them. By the time I got to the field a few minutes later, I remembered that the game was being played on the other side of town at the National League fields. UGH. I was practically out of gas at that point and decided just to call the house and leave a message, then head to the fair. (My life.... crazy, huh?) Anyway, when I got to the fair, I discovered from talking to another parent who has a son on Benjamin's team that the game had been changed to noon, so they were likely still playing. I left school again, headed to get gas in order to go over to the field, and received a call from Arthur in the meantime. He and the boys were just getting home and changing. I got gas, went home and delivered the change of clothes to Benjamin, and we headed to the fair (it was now a little after 2...and the fair ends at 3:30). Benjamin and I rode our bikes and Noah rollerbladed... much easier than trying to find parking.... and we all enjoyed the rest of the fair. (I gave Arthur the rest of the afternoon off b/c he had morning duty). Here are some cute pictures of Benjamin eating cotton candy while waiting in line for the bouncy house... I was holding the cotton candy and taking pictures at the same time LOL).
Here's a couple of cute pics of Benjamin and one of his friends, too....
Goofy boys, huh? Hey, I figure that a couple of goofy photos are worth it if I get a good one out of it, right? A little bribery can be a good thing!
I worked at the gym today since I traded to have yesterday off. It was pretty boring there for most of the day, but I managed to get all of my papers corrected, so that was a good thing! :) After that, I found lots of little projects to do.. washing the doors and windows, re-doing the class board, general cleaning up and organizing....stuff to pass the time. I keep remembering that saying from McDonald's so many years ago.. time to lean, time to CLEAN. I feel guilty standing around doing nothing when there is always something I can find to do, kwim? I wish all kids had the same work ethic... *sigh* I need to expect more from my own in that area too.
Oh well... time for bed after I throw in a load of laundry. Night all!
